Free CSA Illumina™ and CSA Illustrata™ Search Widgets Expand Access to Serious Research
Divided line

ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 23, 2009 - ProQuest has launched free search widgets for products on its CSA Illumina™ platform, including a dedicated widget for its CSA Illustrata™ product line. The CSA Illumina and CSA Illustrata Search Widgets - portable search boxes - allow instant searching of these acclaimed research databases from any page of a library or university web site. The widgets are part of ProQuest's larger initiative to help libraries market their collections by embedding them into the users' workflow.

“ProQuest aims to be an information partner with libraries,” said Mike Visser, director of platform management for ProQuest.  “For us, that means using technology to break down barriers between libraries and users.  These widgets are simple ways to bring the library to the user, wherever that might be.”

The CSA Illumina platform encompasses unique, sought-after research sources.  Its CSA Illustrata product line has become popular with researchers for its ability to surfaces relevant content from illustrations – information that’s often buried in traditional resources.  With the Search Widgets, anybody with access to the CSA Illumina Administrative Module can create simple customized search boxes that allow researchers direct access to CSA Illumina and CSA Illustrata databases from any Web page – from course pages to email messages.     The search boxes carry CSA Illumina and CSA Illustrata logos -- so that users know they're searching deep web content form the library, rather than the free Web.  The widgets’ flexible "plug and play" design lets libraries set their own search parameters, varying them with the context.   For example, a professor can put the Widget on a course page to facilitate research for their class, preloading it with search terms that guide their students.
