During installation I get an error message that reads, "An error occurred during the move data process - 115 shared dll's, file: c\windows\system\msvcrt.dll." What should I do?
This error occurs because certain programs that start up when the computer is turned on use the "MSVCRT.DLL" file. Our program tries to install this file onto your computer during installation. When the computer sees our program attempting to install a file that has already been installed then it produces the "MSVCRT.DLL" error message. There are two ways to fix this problem:

A. Download and install the latest update
  1. Download the updated installation files from the Internet.
  2. Save the files to your computer's desktop, or to another folder where you can easily find the file. The size of this file is about 5.5 MB, depending on the speed of your modem, it may take as long as 30 minutes to download.
  3. Once the file has been downloaded you will see a new icon appear. Double click on the icon.
  4. The installation process will begin, and it will walk you through the steps to install the program.
  5. When you have finished with the installation you will see a new Family Quest Archives icon on your desktop.
  6. Double click the icon.
  7. Select the "Search" button.
  8. A smaller window will appear in the foreground labeled "Get Data."
  9. Insert the CD and wait for your computer to recognize it. (Your screen may flash when your computer recognizes the disk.)
  10. Click the "Add" button at the bottom of the screen.
  11. Click on the data file (e.g., file for the Illinois Census Index: "Il870.dbq"). You will be taken back to the Get Database window and you will now see the name of the state that you just added. If you have one of the CDs with two states listed (e.g., Virginia and West Virginia), you will need to add both data files. If you purchase any other Family Quest Archives CDs you do not need to reinstall the program, just add the new data as above.
  12. The next time that you start the Family Quest Archives, just click on the "Search" button, insert the proper CD into your CD drive then select the corresponding database from the "Get Database" window.
B. Contact us and we will send you the updated installation files on a CD.
  • If you select this option, a CD will be sent to you with the updated installation files. Simply insert the CD and follow the directions listed above.
  • If you decide to e-mail, please include your postal address, the title and product number of the CD, and a brief description of the problem.
