ProQuest Dissertations on Aging and Related Topics Added to AARP's AgeLine Database
ProQuest partners with AARP to provide aging research and policy information
ANN ARBOR, Mich., November 11, 2004 -- AARP and ProQuest Information and Learning announce the addition of doctoral dissertations to AARP's AgeLine Database on aging-related research, policy, and practice. The dissertation content comes from Dissertation Abstracts International and includes gerontology and aging-related content from psychology, social work, economics, sociology, political science, health sciences, and other disciplines, from 1999 to the present.

AARP is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization dedicated to making life better for people 50 and over.  ProQuest Information and Learning, a unit of ProQuest Company, creates and publishes databases for libraries and educational institutions worldwide.

“ProQuest Digital Dissertations contain a wealth of data on aging-related issues, and we are pleased to be able to bring this important information to users of AgeLine Database,” said Austin McLean, director of Scholarly Communication and Dissertation Publishing for ProQuest Information and Learning.

AgeLine is the most comprehensive database focusing exclusively on research, policy, and practice affecting the 50+ population, and includes abstracts of over 600 journals as well as books, chapters, reports, videos, dissertations, and selected consumer content.   It has a strong focus on the health and health care of older adults, including Medicare policy, long-term care, and health status and behaviors.  AgeLine is produced by AARP’s Research Information Center and can be searched free on the AARP Web site (www.aarp.org/ageline) or through third-party providers.

“The incorporation of dissertation citations into AgeLine enhances its position as the single most important reference source for information on aging.  We welcome this ongoing collaborative effort with ProQuest,” said Hugh O’Connor, director of AARP’s Research Information Center.

Dissertations have proven to be a valuable research tool that provides in depth research on virtually every field of study, including AgeLine’s focus on aging.  The first installment of new content, covering more than 600 dissertations, was incorporated into AgeLine in October. Updated content will be added regularly.
