Dissertation Express - Ordering Through Your Interlibrary Loan Office
Librarians—here's a great program that delivers dissertations to your patrons, saves you overhead, and costs you nothing. So why not check it out?
Dissertation Express is a service offered at no charge
to interlibrary loan (ILL) offices at academic libraries
in the U.S. and Canada. It gives students and faculty
the option of buying unbound, shrink-wrapped copies
of dissertations (or master's theses) at $29.00 (U.S.)
each, instead of borrowing them through ILL. In most
cases, the dissertations are delivered to the library
for pickup within three to five business days of ordering.
Dissertations written before 1997 may take one to two
additional days to deliver. Delivery time to Canada
may vary depending on customs.
UMI Dissertation Publishing's point of contact is the
ILL office, not the individual patron. ILL is responsible
for:
- Collecting $29.00 (U.S.) per title in advance from customers
- Transmitting orders to us through a Netscape interface
- Holding the titles we send for patron pickup
- Passing on the $29.00 (U.S.) per title in response to our invoices
UMI is responsible for:
- Generating high-quality printed copies
- Delivering them to ILL within three to five business
days by express carrier
- Billing the library $29.00 (U.S.) per title
Note that the library's only obligation is to remit the money it receives from patrons; enrollment and participation are free of charge.
To enroll your academic library, fill out the library enrollment form.
