Frequently Asked Questions
Question
What are pre-authenticated links?
Answer

Pre-authenticated links are those where the System Administrator has already authenticated the user or workstation in use. These links do not require IP recognition, workstation registration, or passwords and can be used for authorized users accessing from both inside and outside of the institution.

Examples of acceptable pre-authentication include:

  • Placing a desktop shortcut on a standalone workstation within the licensed institution.
  • Placing a link on a local intranet which is not accessible to others outside the institution.
  • Placing a link on a Secure Web page which requires authorized users to enter a password, Library Card, or validates the IP address as belonging to that institution.
